DIE EIGENHEIT (SF) | 2007
Superformel | Single Channel Video, Stereo Audio | 8'00"

Die Eigenheit addresses life in the singularity through the POV experience of Omysa Eomelsa – a mid-level public servant within the Division of Nanotechnologies, Genetics and Robotics. Expressed as glimpses, reminiscences, altered memory, fantasy and transreality, Omysa is awakened to his humanity, his consciousness, and his soul as he becomes aware – free from the singularity’s technological and spiritual bondage. ....more....

LOVE STORY | 2007
Performance Installation

For He loved the world so much, he gave his only begotten son…
Sacrificing that which is held dear in the pursuit of a greater goal or belief is a principle that underlines not only the great religions of the world, but also its political systems. The sacrifice of the few to assuage the (real or manipulated) fears of the many, is a golden thread that runs through international politics.

David Sudmalis (glass) and Daynor Missingham (real-time electronics, processing, and interactive systems) wear the infamous black garb of Satar Jabar. ....more...

DIE EIGENHEIT (RA) | 2007
Reductive Analysis | Single Channel Video, Stereo Audio| 0'40"

The reductive analysis [Die Eigenheit (RA)] condenses the structure and key elements into the barest skeletal structure. In this case, the RA functions as an audio visual synopsis outlining the key themes, shots, style and formal aspects of the SF. ....more....

PHI | 2005
Audio Visual Performance Installation | Flute, Guqin, Piano, Digital Fixed Audio, Single Channel Video Projection

Phi is built on the concept of ‘difference creating balance’. Commissioned as part of a cultural exchange exhibition between Australia and China, the work employs Chinese instruments, sounds, and performance techniques alongside and within a Western, modernist pre-compositional and instrumental framework. The creative work seeks to facilitate a creative dialogue between different cultures, both of which are strengthened through the discourse. ... more...

FLICKER | 2005
Stereo Audio and Candle | Installation | Dimensions Variable

Flicker demonstrates the physicality of sound. In this installation, a solitary candle flame dances in response to the movement of air caused by the carriage of sound in a stereo field. This installation is characterised by the binaural beatings of adjacent or proximate sine waves and the shadows that result through the changing dimensions of the flame.

DURÉE | 2005
Immersive Projection Environment
Three Channel Video | Six Channel Audio

When you enter the space of Duree, time is suspended...

Durée began as an exploration of a desire to experience the moment, and grew into an exploration of time itself – that is, what time is and how it is perceived, felt and measured by humans. The phenomenon that is time is so precisely measured by our culture, yet seems elusive and imprecise to us as individuals. It is this apparent temporal fluidity that is expressed in the work through the distortion of the moment in an attempt to ultimately communicate a personal (if perhaps naive) wish that both individuals and our society as a whole, could attempt to explore and relish each passing moment to the fullest capacity.

It is envisioned that the work takes the viewer/participant to a space where time is insignificant, yet each moment seems precious. A careful combination of repetition and change has been balanced in order to create an environment that is always changing, yet seems to maintain a sense of familiarity. The viewer is invited on a journey, with the hope that the work then becomes a tangential experience, initiating a response within the individual that is a reflection of his/her own life experiences.

ENKI | 2005
Stereo Audio | 9'10"

ENKI was designed to incorporate elements of a fixed, broadcastable audio part with a live flute part modified in real time by live electronics. The digital audio part was comprised of numerous flute samples (C flute, bamboo flute, shakuhachi), modified wood sounds (tapping, clapsticks, marimba), sounds of metal (cymbals) and small excerpts from extant orchestral works that embrace sounds of nature (Cicada Dusk, Naracoopa) and remixed. These orchestral chunks manifest themselves in the digital audio part as spatialised repeated figures creating a larger macro-rhythm.
